Boots on the ground! We don't like asking for donations or money. But quite frankly, this isn't about us. It's about the lives and health and well-being of individuals and families in the Appalachia hills and hollers of North Carolina and Tennessee.
Why Tick and Bug Spray? Do you remember the stories of rescuers in 911-- when they came home many of them suffered from not only PTSD, but they had diseases related to exposure to toxic environmental contaminants. Ticks, bugs, and mosquitos (ticks in particular) are aggressive and carry not only Lyme disease, but this region is known for alpha gal syndrome. These critters are hearty and hard to kill! They survive in cold weather!
Alpha-gal syndrome is a type of food allergy. It makes people allergic to red meat and other products made from mammals. The condition usually begins with the bite from a tick. The bite transfers a sugar molecule called alpha-gal into the body. It causes mild to severe allergic reactions to red meat, such as beef, pork or lamb. It also can cause reactions to other foods that come from mammals, such as dairy products or gelatins.
Most cases of alpha-gal syndrome are reported in the south, east and central United States.
REQUEST: Our team just returned from North Carolina after dropping off and donating our complete in stock inventory. We received a text on October 15, 2024, requesting MORE bug spray to hand out in kits to linemen, rescuers, and individuals and families living in and exposure in the woods and outdoors.
Why are we so passionate? One of us was diagnosed with alpha gal from a tick bite three years ago. It's a difficult challenge and has affected our day to day eating and exposure to restaurant and even fumes in the air.
Deer are also carrying the tick and other bugs to new parts of the country. Some people may have alpha-gal syndrome and do not know it. The average delay in diagnosis is 7 years. Meanwhile, these individuals are very sick and DO NOT KNOW WHY. There are people who have serious allergic reactions, with a delayed response up to 3 to 5 hours after exposure. That's why it can be difficult to diagnose.
There's no treatment other than avoiding red meat and other products made from mammals (there are so many things you would never think of being made with animal products!).
